The Department of Teacher Education – North Campus University of Kashmir was established in 2021. The department functions under the aegis of School of Education and Behavioural Sciences – University of Kashmir Srinagar. The department envisions being one of the premier teacher training institutions in Kashmir in future. The department aims to impart quality education to teacher trainees and inculcate in them professional mastery in theory and pedagogy of teaching. As of now, the department offers two year Masters in Education (M.Ed) programme comprising of four semesters respectively. M.Ed. Programme M.Ed. is a two-year post-graduate professional degree programme for advanced study in the field of Teacher Education which aims at preparing quality teacher educators and other educational professionals including educational policy analysts, planners, experts etc. The programme offers a comprehensive overview of ‘Education’ embedded in the foundational disciplines of Philosophy, Sociology and Psychology; and detailed study of chosen specialized areas of interest like Educational Technology, Special Education, Guidance and Counselling Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) etc. The course includes a strong research component enabling the students to explore areas of research in the field of education. The department is situated at the scenic landscape of North Campus. The department is well equipped with class rooms, seminar room, psychological resource centre, ICT resource centre.

The department aims to offer multiple teacher training programmes including certificate courses, diploma courses, bachelors degree and post- graduate courses to cater to the professional development and capacity building of highly competent teachers.
