About
The Department of Botany at North Campus, University of Kashmir is a forward-thinking academic department dedicated to advancing botanical knowledge frontiers. With a strong focus on interdisciplinary research and a commitment to education and outreach, the department strives to cultivate the next generation of botanists who will contribute to further development of the subject. The department was established in the year 2023 by the university council decision with an intake capacity of 30 students. Introduction of Department of Botany at the North Campus, Baramulla by University of Kashmir represents a significant step towards expanding the University’s academic offerings and enhancing its presence in the region. Having distinction of being the first life sciences department in the campus, Department of Botany will contribute to the academic excellence of the campus and will serve as a cornerstone in nurturing scientific curiosity, infusing critical thinking in the students and preparing them to contribute to the ever-evolving field of life sciences. Through various initiatives, such as public lectures, botanical gardens, and collaborations with local/national and international organizations, the department aims to raise awareness about the importance of plants for human well-being and environmental sustainability.
The faculty members of the department are renowned experts in various fields, including plant molecular biology & biotechnology, biochemistry, ecology, taxonomy, and genetics. In addition to academic programs, the Department will actively engage in various research projects, aiming to discover new plant species, investigate mechanisms of plant adaptation, secondary metabolism, conservation, medicinal plant, and explore the impacts of climate change on plant life. The expertise and passion of the faculty members for research not only contribute to the advancement of botanical knowledge but also ensure that students receive a comprehensive and up-to-date education in the field.

Library:
The central library of the campus houses hundreds of books which include titles pertaining to core plant science and applied science subjects from reputed publishers such as Mc Graw Hill, Pearson, Wiley, etc. Further, books for competitive examinations like GATE, UGC-NET, etc. are also available.
The department is committed to providing a world-class infrastructure to support teaching, learning, and research in plant science.
Vision
We intend to undertake basic and applied research in the field of plant sciences and provide quality education to students enlisting for course training. Although there are many challenges at the moment, especially concerning infrastructure, our sincere and constant efforts in this direction will help us overcome these and other hurdles soon.
